Romans 7:1-6 – A Widow of the Law

Last time we met we looked at how grace and sin worked together and we saw that what a person does is how you can tell who their master is. If a person continually is in sin, then their master is sin, on the other hand if they are becoming more Christ like with time then their master is Christ. This week we will look at the question of how the Old Testament Law applies to New Testament Christians. [...]

Romans 6:15-23

Last week we started Romans 6 and began to look at how we are to live now that we are Christians. Paul opened that discussion by addressing a what was likely a common challenge to his teaching, that is if where sin abounds grace abounds more then should we not sin more so that God can be glorified? Paul answered that challenge last week and showed how wrong that idea was. This week Paul addresses another question, one that is common in our day as well as likely being a common challenge to his teaching. [...]

Romans 6:1-14

In the previous weeks through our study of Romans we spent time on our legal status before God. We saw how we are guilty before God, and have no excuse for our crimes. Romans 6 starts a new focus on moral and how we should be living now that were are legally declared righteous. [...]

Romans 5:1-11

It is important to note that while this is true of how we see hope in the modern day, it is not how Paul meant hope when Romans was written. Paul’s idea of hope was in something guaranteed. Where a modern day person might say, “I hope it rains,” expressing a wish or desire, Paul might say “I place my hope in the fact the sun will rise tomorrow,” expressing confidence in something guaranteed to happen.
